This course will give students the very basics in Dutch proficiency, knowledge of Dutch grammar, phonetics and conversation skills.

Inhoud

Conversations:
Use of basic sentences and conversationstrategies to get by in everyday life (introducing oneself, shopping, going out, filling out a registration form, opinions about Belgium …). The student can maintain a simple conversation on one of the topics dealt with in class.

Vocabulary:
Passive knowledge of wide variety of topics. Active knowledge of topics dealt with in class (life in Mechelen, the station, what’s your name, what time is it, making use of public transport,…). Elementary vocabulary used in present tense sentences. Pronunciation exercises.

Grammar:
Verbs (regular and irregular) in present and past tenses. Formation and use of nouns, adjectives, articles and adverbials. Affirmative, negative and interrogative sentences.
