Begincompetentie

The student should have completed the first two chapters of Cisco Certified Network Associate; "Network Fundamentals" and "Routing Protocols and Concepts".

Eindcompetentie

Specifiek voor dit opleidingsonderdeel: Het behalen van het certificaat "Cisco Certified Network Associate (640-802 CCNA)" via een certifiëringsinstantie (Pearson VUE) of slagen op een vergelijkbare KHM georganiseerde test.

1. INFORMATIEBEHEERDER
1C. De jonge professional organiseert de informatie-infrastructuur.
1.1 De jonge professional bepaalt de telecommunicatiebehoefte, op basis van strategische, tactische en/of operationele plannen van de opdrachtgever. De student kan een geschikte LAN- en WAN-technologie aanraden.
1.2 De jonge professional zet functionele specificaties om naar een praktische implementatie. De student configureert de netwerktoestellen zodat het netwerk binnen de vooropgestelde parameters functioneert.
1.6 De jonge professional beheert een database en een server. Dit behelst het beheer van de capaciteit, beschikbaarheid en performance. De student beheert een netwerk. Dit behelst implementeren van redundantie en het controleren van performatie.
1.9 De jonge professional maakt procedures voor automatische uitvoering van taken o.a. backup’s. De nadruk ligt op life-cycle (van creatie tot archivering) en duurzame oplossingen (procedures) en dit in tegenstelling tot one-shot oplossingen. Een belangrijke stap bij het implementeren van een datanetwerk is de documentatie. De student kan met behulp van het TFTP protocol het configuratiebestand, met daarin commentaarlijnen, en het besturingssysteem van een toestel op een tweede locatie wegbergen.
1.10 De jonge professional wendt spontaan en exploratief nieuwe technieken en softwarepakketten aan binnen de beroepscontext; hij gebruikt simulatiesoftware om nieuwe configuraties te testen vooraleer ze in een productienetwerk uit te voeren.
1.11 De jonge professional onderkent de nodige maatregelen voor systeembeveiliging en past deze toe; hij voorziet de configuratie van de routers en switches van de nodige waarschuwingen en beveiligingen om ongewenste toegang te verbieden.

2. COMMUNICATOR
2A. De jonge professional communiceert omtrent een project zowel mondeling als schriftelijk, in het Nederlands, Frans en Engels, professioneel met alle betrokken partijen.
2.2 De jonge professional kan zijn project vlot duiden, alsook de wijze waarop de invulling ervan tot stand kwam. Hij geeft een onderbouwde presentatie over de inhoudelijke, technische en financiële facetten van het werk. De student kan zijn netwerkopstelling vlot duiden, alsook de wijze waarop de invulling ervan tot stand kwam.
2.4 De jonge professional functioneert constructief in een (multicultureel, multidisciplinair) team, met respect voor de inbreng van de anderen. De oefeningen tijdens het practicum verlopen meestal in groep omdat er te weining toestellen zijn en om tijdswinst te genereren.
2.6 De jonge professional documenteert beroepsspecifieke informatie, ideeën, problemen en oplossingen en communiceert deze zowel aan specialisten als aan leken.

3. ORGANISATOR/COÖRDINATOR
3B. De jonge professional plant zijn werk in tijd, stelt prioriteiten en haalt deadlines, ook als hij onder (zware) stress staat.
3.3 De jonge professional maakt een werkplanning op en volgt deze ook effectief.
3.4 De jonge professional blijft efficiënt functioneren onder (redelijk) zware werkdruk.

5. KWALITEITSBEWAKER
De jonge professional staat bij de uitoefening van de verschillende beroepsrollen in voor de kwaliteit van zijn eigen werkuitvoering.
5.1 De jonge professional ontwikkelt en bekwaamt zich en blijft alert voor nieuwe ontwikkelingen in het vakgebied, meer bepaald de nieuwe mogelijkheden van nieuwe versies van Internetworking Operating System (IOS).
5.3 De jonge professional bouwt een kwaliteitsvolle redenering, waarbij hij rekening houdt met beroepsspecifieke inzichten, ervaringen, bevindingen en gewoonten. Hij kan fouten in een datanetwerk op een efficiënte en beredeneerde manier opsporen en verhelpen, en maakt hierbij gebruik van ervaring en inzichten.
5.4 De jonge professional werkt accuraat, met aandacht voor alle relevante details.
5.5 De jonge professional begrijpt een probleemsituatie van een eindgebruiker en komt via een systematische aanpak tot een al dan niet tijdelijke oplossing. De student spoort analytisch en gestructureerd de oorzaken van problemen op en stelt definitieve oplossingen voor. Hij gebruikt hulpmiddelen zoals sniffers, show commando's, network management/diagnostic tools en logfiles.
5.8 De jonge professional gaat discreet en ethisch om met informatie. Bij het gebruik van packet tracers en debug tools is het mogelijk dat er gevoelige informatie opgevangen wordt.

Inhoud

This course is based on the last two chapters of the Cisco Certified Network Associate curriculum, Exploration version; "LAN Switching and Wireless" and "Accessing the WAN".

In the first part, the Catalyst switches of Cisco Sytems inc are covered. These Layer 2 switches are used to explain concepts such as VLANs, VTP, STP and inter-VLAN routing. To study the basic principles of WLans, only the Linksys devices in the Packet Tracer simulation software are used.

In the second and last part, other topics are covered;
- different WAN technologies (PPP and Frame Relay)
- Network Address Translation
- Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
- Securing network devices with Access-Control Lists and Secure Device Manager.

Evaluatie

If the student has a valid Cisco Certified Network Associate certificate, i.e. he passed the 640-802 CCNA exam in een Pearson VUE test centre in the past 3 years, then the student's passing score of the 640-802 CCNA exam is used to calculate the score for this course. As the minimum passing score that Cisco Systems inc. imposes on Pearson VUE is relatively high, the score for this course will be at least 16/20. As the CCNA certificate is still valued in the industry and taking into consideration that a good result on the final test of the last chapter "Accessing the WAN" of the Cisco Certified Networking Associate curriculum exploration edition rewards the student with a voucher for the 640-802 CCNA exam (50% discount on the examination fee), students should consider taking this 640-802 CCNA exam.

If the student does not posses a valid Cisco Certified Network Associate certificate, the score is calculated as followed:
50% of the score is based on the oral exam. The oral exam is a troubleshooting exam: the student is confronted with a number of -mutually independent- problems. To solve a problem, the student has to formulate and test a hypothesis. If the hypotheses is proven, the problem is accurately described and can be solved. If not, the student has to formulate and test another hypothesis until the problem is solved or time runs out.
The other 50% of the score is calculated based on the interim test. This test will take place in the second to last week of the semester. The questions are based on questions that could be asked during a 640-802 CCNA exam.
